explanation
Based on the basic idea of creating something that will be used as a reference for a long time,
this speaker system was developed by incorporating Yamaha's proprietary technologies such
as the beryllium diaphragm.
It was sold for a long period of 23 years, from 1974 to 1997, and was used as a monitor speaker
by the Swedish and Finnish national broadcasters.
A beryllium diaphragm is used for the diaphragm in the mid and high range.
This diaphragm has been successfully developed by applying the electron beam vacuum deposition method and special alloy technology used in LSI manufacturing technology, and
because it is manufactured in a high vacuum, it has fewer compounds and achieves higher
purity than those finished with rolled plate material.
In addition, since it is deposited after being atomized or plasma-shaped, it is possible to
manufacture deep dome shapes and tangential edges, which are difficult to do with drawing
molding.
In addition, by applying a special coating with a thickness of about 5 microns to the corrosive
beryllium material, we have succeeded in protecting it from harmful components in the
atmosphere.
The low frequency range is equipped with the JA-3058A, which is a 30cm cone-type woofer.
The diaphragm is made of corrugated cone paper, which was developed from many years of
material research. In addition, a cloth with a double coating of thermosetting resin and viscoelastic
resin to suppress resonance is used for the edges to increase linearity with respect to the input
signal.
A 156φ ferrite magnet is used for the magnetic circuit, and the voice coil is edgewise wound
with copper ribbon wire.
The midrange is equipped with JA-0801, an 8.8cm domed squawker.
It uses a beryllium diaphragm with a diaphragm diameter of 68 mm, which is manufactured
using Yamaha's original manufacturing method. In addition, the edges are double-coated
tangential edges impregnated with viscoelastic resin and thermosetting resin, which are the
results of research during the development of soft dome types such as NS-690, to achieve
sufficient shape retention and center holding capacity without compromising the characteristics
of beryllium. In addition, the voice coil uses a large diameter of 66φ and is edgewise wound with
copper ribbon wire to increase efficiency.
This vibration system is designed so that the air pressure behind each part such as the beryllium
diaphragm, voice coil, and edge is the same. The back of the diaphragm leads to the center
pole hollowed-out back cavity, and the back of the voice coil is passed through the back cavity
by drilling an air hole in the bottom plate of the magnetic circuit. In addition, behind the edge is
an air hole in the voice coil bobbin, and an air hole is also drilled in the outer pole to allow air to
escape at the edge.
The magnetic circuit uses a large magnet of 156φ to obtain a magnetic flux density of 16,000
gauss and improve transient characteristics.
In order to increase the rigidity of the diaphragm and improve the directivity, a dome shape with
a small radius of curvature is adopted. For this reason, the valley caused by interference caused
by the out-of-band on-axis characteristics is suppressed by the use of a diffuser, and the on-axis
characteristics are extended to the widest possible area, improving the connection with
the tweeter near the crossover frequency.
The high frequency range is equipped with JA-0513, a 3.0 cm dome tweeter.
The diaphragm uses a 23mm lightweight diaphragm with a weight of 0.03g or less, taking advantage of the characteristics of beryllium material, and a tangential edge made of cloth with
a double coating of viscoelastic resin and thermosetting resin to suppress unnecessary
resonance.
The voice coil diameter is 23 mm, and an aluminum wire edgewise winding directly connected to
the beryllium diaphragm is adopted, making the entire vibration system lightweight.
In addition, the center pole in the space behind the voice coil, which is the result of research
such as the tweeter of the NS-690, is tapered to make it irregular and filled with urethane for
sound absorption to suppress the effect of resonance.
In the design of the network section, we not only check the electrical characteristics, but also
focus on the basic actual hearing sensation, and make decisions by repeating auditions by cut-
and-try.
The woofer circuit uses a 1.0φ Formal wire and a bobbin with a large-diameter ferrite core to
reduce DC resistance and improve input resistance.
In addition, the attenuator that sets the level of the squawker and tweeter is a large
double-winding attenuator with good input resistance characteristics.
The enclosure is a fully enclosed bookshelf with a four-sided finish and a black finish design.
The NS-1000M uses 24mm particle board for the front baffle, 25mm for the back plate,
and 20mm particle board for the side, top, and bottom plates. In addition, a 24mm thick piece of
plywood is passed over the back plate at the top of the woofer mounting hole to provide
a strong reinforcement, and appropriate reinforcement is applied in various places.
The finish is a black semi-glossy finish without a cross net.
