Commentary
The ES series cassette deck inherits the design philosophy of the TC-K555ESG.
The new mechanism suppresses unpleasant mechanical noises and enables quick operation.
Two sets of capstan and pinch rollers placed around the head sandwich the tape and adopt
a closed-loop dual-capstan system that stabilizes the tape running. This provides numerous
benefits such as improved wah flutter characteristics, reduced modulation noise, and stable
head touch.
In addition, the capstan drive uses a direct drive with a three-layer linear torque BSL motor with
low rotational unevenness, and a zinc die-cast base that eliminates the transmission of
quartz-lock servos and unwanted vibrations, resulting in excellent characteristics.
It adopts power loading, and when you put the tape in the cassette lid and press the operation
buttons such as play or rewind without closing the door, the tape will automatically load and
enter the operating mode.
It is equipped with a cassette stabilizer, which allows the tape to be loaded with power
loading, while the holding arm secures the cassette half and reduces harmful vibrations
during tape running.
The three-head system is adopted, and the optimal head gap width can be set for both
recording and playback, resulting in better linearity and frequency response compared to the
two-head system.
It also allows simultaneous recording monitors to check the recording status in real time.
It uses a mid-ship drive system, with the mechanical deck and power supply in the center,
and the control system and audio circuitry separated on the left and right sides, resulting in
a good weight balance with almost equal weight on the four legs.
In addition, it adopts an inner chassis that divides the interior into three equal parts,
increasing total rigidity and reducing electromagnetic interference between blocks.
It is equipped with a bias calibration function, and the built-in oscillator allows you to fine-tune
the bias value to match the tape used while looking at the meter indication in the ± 20% range.
It also has a recording calibration function that eliminates the difference in recording/playback levels due to tape sensitivity.
The recording amplifier and playback amplifier are combined on an independent board and

wire rod with more than 99.997% high-purity oxygen-free copper and almost no grain
boundaries at key points.

The head uses an LC-OFC winding laser amorphous head. This is a feature of Sony's
proprietary laser amorphous head winding that takes advantage of the magnetic properties
of amorphous magnetic alloys and uses LC-OFC (linear crystalline oxygen-free copper)
to reduce distortion caused by capacitive reactance and improve mid and high frequency
losses.
Equipped with the Dolby HX-PRO, the effective bias amount is controlled to the optimal value
in 1/1000th of a second increments to prevent high-frequency over-bias and improve
high-frequency linearity. This feature only works when recording, so you can still play on
a deck that doesn't have a Dolby HX-PRO.
It uses superbias, which greatly shifts the bias frequency to widen the frequency difference
with the music signal and suppresses beat noise and mixed-modulation distortion caused
by the interference between the bias frequency and the music signal.
It is equipped with Dolby NR B-C type.
By bonding a damping material with a large internal loss to the chassis and inserting the
damping material into the joints of each chassis, unnecessary vibration of the enclosure is
suppressed.
The polarized power cord uses an OFC cap tire cable.
It uses gold-plated input/output terminals that are less resistant to rust and corrosion
over time, and have low contact resistance.
By using the included wireless remote control, you can synchronize recording without
connecting to a Sony remote-compatible CD player without a sync cord.
It is equipped with a linear electronic counter with FL tube with a minute and second
display subtraction function.
It displays real-time peak values in the range of -40dB~+8dB and is equipped with
a wide-range peak program meter with a peak hold function.
It is equipped with a display ON/OFF switch, and you can choose from three modes: all lights,
only counters, and all off.
It is equipped with an AMS (Automatic Music Sensor) function that allows you to quickly start
and start the front and back songs. In particular, the ESG series improves ease of use by
making the operation one-touch.
It has an auto-tape selector that automatically detects whether the tape you are using is
Type I (normal), II (high position), or IV (metal).
It is equipped with an autoplay function that automatically starts playing after rewinding,
and a memory play function that allows you to start playing from the position reset to counter zero.
Timer recording and alarm playback are possible by combining the timer, which is sold
separately.
